World Blood Donor Day Celebrated with enthusiasm at Ruby Hall Clinic 

Pune (P&V news Service): Highlighting the importance of voluntary blood donation and Safe Blood Transfusion to the patients, Ruby Hall Clinic organized a special program to mark the World Blood Donor Day on 14 June.

 “Donating Blood is an Act of Solidarity. Join the Effort and Save Lives” –was the theme for World blood Day Campaign for the year 2022.

Managing Trustee and Chief Cardiologist Dr. P.K Grant, CEO Mr. Bomi Bhote  , COO,Dr. Manisha Karmarkar , Medical Director Dr. Rebecca John,  Director of Blood Transfusion Services Dr. Snehal Mujumdar  along with over 250 Voluntary blood donors, blood donation camp organizers, Consultant doctors, Staff Nurses , Managers and staff of all 3 Ruby Hall Clinic Group of Hospitals attended the function.  

Keeping the objectives of Promotion of voluntary blood donation and Safe Blood Transfusion to the patients in focus, 20 Apheresis donors and Blood Donation Camp Organizers were felicitated on the occasion. Various competitions were held for doctors and staff nurses to emphasize the need of ensuring safety from Donor’s Vein to the patient’s vein (Vein to vein safety) .124 prize winners were felicitated on the occasion.

Mr. Bomi Bhote highlighted that “Ruby Hall Clinic Blood Center has all technologically advanced equipment. He stated that our Blood Center is the foundation of our Hospital and our voluntary blood donors are our pillars of strength. He praised the Blood Center staff for their commitment and skills which results in saving thousands of lives each year. He praised the protocols set by the Director of Blood Transfusion Services, Dr. Snehal Mujumdar. These protocols are stringently followed by the staff resulting in safe blood transfusion in patients   ”

Dr. Manisha Karmarkar stated that “As a practicing Anaesthologist she handles blood transfusions almost every day. She acknowledged that under the directions of Dr. Snehal Mujumdar, the Director of Blood Transfusion Services, there has never been a single occasion in any of the 3 Ruby Hall Clinic hospitals when surgery had to be postponed due to non availability of blood. Even during the COVID pandemic, the blood center ensured continuous uninterrupted supply of Blood components in all 3 Ruby Hall Group of Hospitals. She emphasized on: ‘WHY WAIT FOR THE DISASTAR TO OCCUR’ -, ‘DONATE BLOOD NOW’

Managing Trustee and Chief Cardiologist Dr. Purvez Grant motivated the staff of Ruby Hall Clinic to participate actively in this noble work. Speaking on the occasion he said “Lack of time, fear of needles and not understanding what’s involved are all given as reasons for people not donating blood. As a medical organisation we aim to dispel all myths associated with this and it is for this purpose that we have conducted internal awareness programmes on the importance of voluntary blood donations and safe blood transfusions.

Dr. Snehal Mujumdar, the Director of Blood Transfusion Services emphasized the importance of Voluntary non remunerated repeat blood donors in ensuring safe blood transfusion. She said “100% of the blood collected in Ruby Hall Clinic Blood Center is from Voluntary Non remunerated Donors and 100% of the issue of blood units to the patients is in the form of blood components. All the important processes like blood grouping, matching the donor’s blood with the patient, and testing the blood for HIV and other diseases id done by automation or semi automation. This coupled with the advanced facilities like leucodepletion, irradiation and Apheresis have really made blood transfusion at Ruby Hall Clinic safer and minimized the Transfusion related adverse reactions”.
