60 year old brain dead farmer gives a new lease of life to four

Pune (Voice news service):- A sixty year old farmer ( female) from Purandar gave a new lease of life to four after declared brain dead following a road accident . She was admitted to Noble Hospitals and Research Centre on 6th February after a severe brain injury. She was riding pillian along with her husband when they met with an accident near their home town. Both of them were admitted following severe brain injury. She was declared brain dead on 8th Feb and the organs were harvested on 9th February.

Dr. Sanjay Pathare, Group Executive Officer at Noble Hospitals and Research Centre informed that after her family gave consent for organ donation, her organs were harvested with lungs being sent to another hospital in Pune, one kidney to a hospital in Nashik while the kidney and liver were transplanted at Noble Hospital and Research Centre on 9th February.

The kidney was transplanted on 35 year old male patient suffering from chronic kidney disease while the liver was transplanted on a 45 year old male suffering from Chronic Liver Disease ,he added

Dr. Pathare thanked ZTCC for their valuable role in coordination and allocation of organs .

Her husband, also a farmer, is in critical condition and admitted in the ICU.

The kidney transplant team included surgeons Dr Shashikant Bhange HoD, Renal Sciences at Noble Hospitals and Research Centre along with Dr Geetanjali Akhade, Anaesthetist and team while the liver transplant included liver transplant surgeons Dr.Bipin Vibhute and Dr.Smita Parakh along with Dr Manish Pathak, Anaesthetist and transplant coordinators Mahesh Tupe and Ashwini kawade.

Dr. Divij Mane, Director Noble Hospitals and Research Centre said that we salute the young family members including their son and daughters who consented to the organ donation in such a difficult situation Their selfless act has helped rejuvenate the lives of those seeking transplantation and their families.
