Pune: Imbibing good lifestyle habits during childhood is the foundation of lifelong heart health opined experts. The theme for World Heart Day (29th September) is Don’t Miss a Beat. Loved ones around the world are missing out on time they should still have to spend together due to early deaths from CVD
Dr. Suraj Ingole, HoD Cardiac Sciences at VishwaRaj Hospital, Loni Pune said The cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the biggest concerns in today’s times, it is infact one of the leading causes of mortality . It is disheartening to see younger patients coming to us with CVDs, men, women alike and irrespective of their financial background and whether rural or urban,
The growing prevalence of heart diseases is multi-factorial—influenced by genetics, sedentary lifestyles, stress, smoking, poor dietary habits, and the presence of comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
People should be aware of the early signs like mild to discomforting chest pain, shortness of breath, unexplained fatigue etc. People in their 40s should get screened regularly and undergo tests like 2D Echo, Lipid profile and stress test with consultation from the doctor.
But it is time to seriously take a long term view right from the start , added Dr. Ingole. Imbibing good lifestyle habits during childhood is the foundation of lifelong heart health. Encouraging children to stay active, eat balanced meals, and avoid unhealthy choices will not only reduce early risks but also protect.
Lifestyle afterall is in our hands, if we keep moving, eat healthy we are more likely to stay healthy.
