Henkel India Sets Up Skill Development Center for Students with Special Needs

Pune:– Henkel India reaffirmed its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) by setting up and inaugurating a Skill Development Center at Brahmadatta Vidyalaya in Nigadi, Pune. The ceremony, led by Country President, Henkel India, S. Sunil Kumar, marked the launch of a comprehensive CSR project aimed at empowering differently abled students.

Brahmadatta Vidyalaya is a school dedicated to providing education and support to these special students, primarily those facing physical or cognitive challenges. The school operates with government funding and is run by an NGO. While the government provides support for these students until the age of 18, after that, they rely on their families for continued care. To address this challenge, the school has established a skill development center in collaboration with Henkel where students can engage in producing saleable items and offer services to the community.

The inauguration of the skill development center included the unveiling of various machinery and equipment by S. Sunil Kumar. The equipment included a Flour Mill, Camphor machine, Essence stick machine, sewing machine, Cotton thread machine, packing machine, TV/laptop for visual learning, and a washing machine. The students will receive training and skill development opportunities, enabling them to work and earn an income. They can even explore entrepreneurship on a smaller scale.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sunil Kumar said, “Henkel India takes immense pride in supporting and addressing societal challenges through its CSR initiatives. It firmly believes in extending kindness and support to the differently abled community, ensuring their holistic development and integration into society.”

The inauguration ceremony was anchored by Principal Joshi, and an introductory speech was delivered by Dr. Prasad Khandgale. The event was attended by members of the CSR committee, including Bhupesh Singh, Sandhya Kedlaya, Kunjal Parekh, Harshavardhan Nayak, Harshavardhan Jogdand as well as Manager Sachin Sapar, P.K. Verma, school teachers, Henkel employees, and students.

By establishing skill development activities and unveiling various machinery and equipment, the school aims at enhancing the students’ training, employment prospects, and overall empowerment.
