Question On Evacuation After A Major Fire Breaks Out At Marigold IT Park, Pune

Pune (Voice News Service): A fire broke out at a commercial building in Marigold IT Park in Pune, causing a panic situation in the area. Fire and smoke spread on the first four floors of the Marigold 1 Tower. It was the third fire incident reported in Pune. In all the incidents challenge was to evacuate people on time. In the Marigold IT Park fire incident, 20 people were injured, and employees were trapped inside the building.

“The situation was brought under control, and about 40 people working at the IT Park building were rescued using the branto ladder,” said a fire official.

The measure challenge faced by the firefighters is evacuating people by crane and branto ladders. A couple of fire personnel also got injured during the operation. Many have faced breathing issues due to the accessive amount of carbon monoxide. All these parameters led to the question of fire safety and evacuation in the city. It raises the question of whether the developers are following the safety and evacuation norms or not.

Dr. Vikram Mehta, an Industry Expert (fondly known as the Fire Evacuation Man of Maharashtra), said, “One of the basic requirements for any fire brigade team to evacuate people in time during a fire emergency is an evacuation solution that can reach the upper floors quickly and safely. It’s time to upgrade the fire evacuation solutions, just like we are upgrading amenities and lifestyles. We need to move on to Fire Evacuation Lifts, which are highly advanced lifts with technologies like IoT (Internet of Things). The Fire Evacuation Lift will help firefighters to reach higher floors faster and safer. It will help to douse the fire resulting in saving lives and loss of properties. Our Honorable Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Sir has said it’s a great solution for a safer Maharashtra during Fire Service Week. Whether it is a residential building or commercial, everyone needs to adhere to the fire safety and evacuation norms to make Pune a fire-free city.”

Dr. Deepak Monga, Fire Safety and Evacuation Expert said, “This incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of implementing robust evacuation solutions to safeguard lives and assets. People are forced to evacuate themselves by staircase, firefighters are using ladders to evacuate people because of the lack of a proper evacuation solution. Look at the energy and stamina they must have needed to evacuate 40 employees with the help of a ladder. The city needs stricter actions against evacuation norms to avoid casualties and loss.”
