36th Pune International Marathon 2022
‘Night Marathon’ on Sunday, 4th December 2022

Pune ( Voice News Service): This year’s Pune International Marathon, which has put Pune on world’s sports map, marks its 36th year and will be organized as a ‘Night Marathon’ on Sunday, December 4, 2022. It will begin on December 3rd after 12 midnight (on 4th Dec. 2022 at 00:01hrs). In this ‘Night Marathon’ there will be 6 categories each for men and women which comprises 42.195 km full marathon for both men and women and half marathon. Also 10 km, 5km and a wheelchair & Family Run (3 km)
competition for both sections will be held.
The highlight of this year’s ‘night marathon’ is that Mr. Jigmet Namgial, the winner of the full
marathon men’s category and Ms.Dikset Dolma, the winner of the full marathon women’s category of the ‘Sarhad Kargil International Marathon 2022’, held in Kargil ,Ladakh (UT) in Sept. 2022, will participate in it. In this marathon, the participants who gets excellent points as per the criteria will be benefitted for their entrance for next year’s WANDA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS MARATHON in Chicago, USA. Such international agreement has been made between the PIMT and WANDA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS MARATHON, Chicago, USA.
On December 3rd after 12:00 midnight (on 4th Dec. 2022 at 00:01 hrs) Men’s and Women’s
42.195 km full marathon will commence from Sanas Ground and will run through Sarasbagh –
Sinhgad Road – Nanded City – Bypassing Inner Circle in Nanded City and return via Sinhagad Road –Sarasbagh – Sanas Ground. This is the first lap and the full marathon ends at Sanas Ground by going the same route again.


On December 4th at 12.30 am (00.30 hrs) the Men’s and Women’s Half Marathon will
commence from Sanas Ground, will take the same route as above, bypass the inner circle of Nanded City – will return via Sinhagad Road and will end at Sanas Ground.
On the same day at 6 am, the 10 km competition for men and women will be held from
Sanas Ground – Sarasbagh – Sinhagad Road – Brahma Garden and return via same route concluding at Sanas Ground.
At 6.30 am, the 5 km competition for men and women will begin from Sanas Ground –
Sarasbagh – Sinhagad Road – Ganesh Mala and return via same route concluding at Sanas Ground.


At 6.45 am the wheelchair competition and at 7.00 am Family Run for men and women will
be the last race held from Sanas Ground – Sarasbagh – Sinhagad Road – Dandekar Bridge returning via same route and will conclude at Sanas Ground.

The route of the full marathon will be inspected & measured by the AIMS Route Measurer.
Preparations for Technical officials Umpires, Time Keepers, Bycycle Pilots, Motor Cycle pilots,
Support Officials, Volunteers, Refreshment & Sponging and drinking water points, night street lights, police arrangements, medical teams, temporary hospital at Finish point with all meciacal, facilities and on route ambulances and for facilities for journalists’ etc. are being made. Last year, the ‘Night Marathon’ was held in Pune for the first time, which proved to be a wonderful and successful experience for all. It is expected that more than 15,000 competitors will participate in this ‘Night Marathon’ and like every year, foreign male and female athletes of international standards will participate in it. More than 100 international athletes have already contacted for the participation, said Adv. Abhay Chhajed and Rohan More, President and Director respectively of Pune International Marathon Trust.


Sumant Waikar will be the Race Director of this competition while Baptist D’Souza, will be
Technical Race Director and Vasant Gokhale will be the Joint Technical Race Director and Gurbans Kaur will be the Joint Race Director of the 36th Pune International Marathon. Vijay Bengle and Chandrakant Patil will be in charge of the marathon’s route committee.
