Ruby Hall Clinic launches Maharashtra’s first Aortic Clinic

We’re all aware of diseases such as diabetes, cancer and stroke, but how often do you hear of aortic disease? Shocking statistics reveal that aortic diseases in various forms are the cause of millions of deaths across the globe each year. More importantly, the incidence of such conditions is only increasing with ageing populations. In order to combat this growing burden, Ruby Hall Clinic launched a comprehensive Aortic Clinic on the occasion of International Aortic Dissection Day. Gracing the occasion were Dr. P.K Grant, Managing Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic and Dr. Manisha Karmarkar, COO, Ruby Hall Clinic. With this, the hospital becomes the only in Maharashtra and one of the handful in the country to house an advanced centre dedicated to aortic disease.

Aortic diseases are often pegged as silent killers because patients often have no symptoms. These include aneurysms (ballooning and weakening of the arterial wall), aortic dissections (a tear in the innermost lining of the aortic wall), aortic occlusions (clots in the aorta) and even aortoarteritis (blood vessel inflammation more commonly seen in younger women). As a sub division of vascular disease, early diagnosis and treatment is paramount to saving lives.

Dr. Dhanesh Kamerkar, Head of Department, Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, Ruby Hall Clinic explained, “More often than not, back and chest pain along with difficulty  in swallowing are believed to be symptoms of heart attack and stroke, However, a simple CT scan can reveal if the condition is related to aortic disease, in which case early treatment is paramount to positive clinical outcomes. At our centre, we have the most advanced technology for vascular care including a hybrid cath lab wherein both catheterisation and surgery can be performed in one suite.”

Dr. Purvez Grant, Managing Trustee, Ruby Hall Clinic further added, “Several genetic and lifestyle factors are known to increase the risk of aortic disease and early screening and treatment offer the best shot at living life to the fullest.” Dr. Manisha Karmarkar, COO, Ruby Hall Clinic concluded, “In order to help people live the healthiest version of their lives, we are organising a three-week long aortic screening programme. Herein, patients above the age of 65 and those with pre-existing comorbidities can get screened at concessional rates. This will help address and treat aortic conditions.”

With the launch of this clinic, the hospital announced a 15 day camp at a 50% discount from the 26th of September to the 10th of October 2022.
