Pune : Ruby Hall Clinic recently hosted a two day Gastrointestinal Surgery Mentorship and Observation program ( GISMO) . Around eight surgeons from various parts of the country took part in the program which aimed at disseminating the latest information on GI surgical techniques. A team of four doctors including Surgical Oncologist Dr. Sujai Hegde, Surgical Gastroenterologist Dr. Vidyachandra Gandhi , Robotic Surgeon Dr. Aditya Kulkarni and Laparoscopic Surgeon Dr. Shailesh Naik performed six surgeries including open , laparoscopic and robotic.
Senior Surgical Oncologist Dr Sujai Hegde (Chairman GI Services) said that these kinds of surgical workshops are the need of the hour. We are planning to host these types of surgical workshops more frequently in the near future. We believe that development of skills should be a dynamic phenomenon for surgeons.
Dr Aditya Kulkarni GI Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon said that Ruby Hall Clinic is a centre of excellence for GI surgeries with a high volume of complicated surgeries being performed regularly. The aim of the workshop was to disseminate the knowledge of advanced surgical procedures to surgeons from all over the country, where they can see how these surgeries are performed , the protocols being followed etc.
Gastrointestinal & HPB Surgeon Dr. Vidyachandra Gandhi informed that the surgeries which were demonstrated included Total peritonectomy with HIPEC, laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, laparoscopic anterior resection, robotic rectopexy, laparoscopic low anterior resection and radical distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy (RAMPS). The GISMO program acts as a training platform for surgeons who are eager to learn how to approach challenging cases requiring major GI surgeries .
