Pune: Athletes from Pune’s R. B. Horangi Taekwondo Do-Jang Association and St. Felix School delivered an impressive performance at two prestigious international taekwondo events held in Muju and Incheon, South Korea, winning a total of 20 medals and bringing laurels to India.
At the World Taekwondo Culture Expo Championship (WTCE) in Muju, the Pune contingent secured three gold, three silver and three bronze medals. The team continued its fine run at the World Olympic Taekwondo Federation (WOTF) event in Incheon, where it bagged six silver and five bronze medals.
In the WTCE competition, Manthan Devi and Kriti Dave won one gold and one silver medal each in the poomsae and kyorugi categories. Aravi Gaware claimed two bronze medals, Kalyani Dafal won one gold and one bronze, while Pranjal Panse secured one silver and one bronze medal. At the WOTF event in Incheon, Manthan Devi added two silver medals to the tally. Kriti Dave, Aravi Gavare, Kalyani Dafal and Pranjal Panse each won one silver and one bronze medal in the poomsae and kyorugi events.
The championships witnessed participation from 28 countries. More than 3,000 athletes competed at the WTCE championship, while the WOTF event attracted over 2,300 participants. The tournaments were attended by Grand Masters from several countries under the leadership of the World Taekwondo Culture Expo organisers.
The international tour, team management and training programme were led by Master Ravindra Bhandari. At the closing ceremony, Bhandari was presented with the Special Appreciation Award for his contribution to the promotion of taekwondo and for guiding his team to remarkable success. The R.B. Horangi Taekwondo Do-Jang Association was also recognised as one of India’s leading taekwondo organisations for its commitment to excellence, discipline and quality.
Following their return, the medal-winning athletes were felicitated by St. Felix School. The ceremony was attended by Provincial Superior Sr Ursula Pinto, Sr Jennifer Pereira, School Manager Sr Rosemary Almeida, Principal Leena Paul, Sr Elsa, Supervisor Bela D’Silva, PT teachers Sonali Rajebhosale and Rupali Bansode.
