Medicover Pune Spotlights Silent Stroke Epidemic Among Aspiring City Women

Pune : An underreported and perilous health emergency is brewing among urban working women in India, with Medicover Hospitals issuing a call to attention on an alarming spike in stroke incidence attributable to gender-related health hazards. Medicover Pune data indicates a 30% spike in stroke cases among women aged between 30 and 50 years over the last three years, highlighting the special susceptibility of women juggling high-stress careers and intricate hormonal health complications.

In urban metropolitans such as Mumbai and Aurangabad, healthy-looking women are increasingly approaching with neurological complications. “This isn’t a hormonal problem — it’s a gap in knowledge,” emphasizes Dr. Dr. Paras Borse Neurophysician, Neurologist at Medicover Hospital, Pune. “Urban women are suffering from long-term stress, disrupted circadian patterns, and self-medicating on hormonal therapy or contraceptives without realizing the risks. Stroke symptoms such as dizziness or confusion get attributed to anxiety, and treatment is delayed.

The hospital’s statistics highlight that most of the stroke patients had female-specific risk factors — such as hormonal therapy, polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), postpartum complications, and long-term contraceptive use.

To reverse the trend, Medicover has introduced the Urban Women’s Brain Health Drive — a pathbreaking initiative for early detection and prevention. The initiative integrates regular neurological tests, sophisticated MRI imaging, blood clotting evaluation, and lifestyle counseling specific to women.

The holistic approach is also reflected in the opening of joint neurology and gynecology clinics in Medicover’s Navi Mumbai and Aurangabad facilities, providing hassle-free preventive care. The program also involves community outreach workshops in residential complexes and corporate offices to enhance awareness levels among working professionals.

“We’re seeing an alarming rise in strokes during or immediately after pregnancy — conditions that were once rare,” notes Dr. Dr Mangal Puri
Gynaecologist, Consultant Gynecologist at Medicover. “Our aim is not just treatment but prevention through proactive education and early risk identification.”

With India’s urban women increasingly driving the nation’s economic growth, Medicover’s campaign is a timely call to prioritize brain health as a critical aspect of women’s overall well-being.
