Thousands of ‘Hirkani’ Ran for Safety, Empowerment & Self-Reliance!

Pune: To encourage women’s safety, self-confidence, empowerment, and self-reliance—while also promoting fitness—thousands of women participated in the ‘Hirakani Run’ across Pune on Sunday. Alongside actress Sonalee Kulkarni, the team of the film ‘Sant Dnyaneshwaranchi Muktai’ encouraged the women. The participants collectively sent out a strong message: “We are safe and empowered.”

Sai Janseva Pratishthan organized the first-ever Hirakani Run, a women’s half marathon. Over 1,200 women from Pune and various towns and cities across Maharashtra participated in the event. The marathon began at Baburao Sanas Ground near Sarasbaug and included 3 km, 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km races, receiving an overwhelming and enthusiastic response.

Present at the event were actress Sonalee Kulkarni, Muktai director Digpal Lanjekar, actors Ajay Purkar, Tejas Barve, Neha Naik, Sai Janseva Pratishthan founder and president Suraj Lokhande, president Geeta Mohorkar, and other dignitaries including Nisha Pachange, Smita Bhise, and Vipul Sharma.

Sonalee Kulkarni stated, “The enthusiasm of these ‘Hirkanis’ who have come from across the state is truly inspiring. Women should support and empower one another. It’s essential to maintain good health and fitness through exercise and a balanced diet. We must draw inspiration from Maharashtra’s many accomplished women. Once we are physically, mentally, and financially strong, we can contribute effectively to society and the nation.”

Suraj Lokhande added, “Thousands of women participating in the marathon proved that Pune’s women are strong and self-reliant. The funds raised from this event will be donated to organizations working for orphans and differently-abled children. Sai Janseva Pratishthan always undertakes initiatives in the public interest. ‘Hirakani Run’ will now be organized every year.”

Ajay Purkar and Digpal Lanjekar also motivated the participants. A Zumba dance session energized the crowd, and all runners were given certificates, medals, T-shirts, and refreshments. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners. The marathon route covered Sanas Ground – Dandekar Bridge – Sinhagad Road – Rajaram Bridge – Santosh Hall – back to Sanas Ground.
