Centre Positive to boost the weaving, handloom industry

Pune: “Central government has many schemes in place for the weavers and handloom workers implemented through the Ministry of Textiles, Small & Medium Industries, and Khadi & Village Industries Commission. Weavers from all over India have presented a handful of their art at this exhibition. Punekar should respond positively to this exhibition,” appealed Prof. Dr. Medha Kulkarni, National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha.

She was talking to the gathering after the inauguration of the handloom expo. This grand expo is an initiative by the Indian Silk Gallery under ‘Azadi ka Amritmahotsav’ for encouraging weavers and handloom workers. Retired Deputy Director of the Central Silk Board under the Ministry of Textiles Shrinivas Rao, and Shyam Kasat of Harshal hall were present at this occasion.

This expo is a joint venture by the Directorate of handloom development, India Handloom, & Handloom Mark organized under one roof. More than 50 handloom workers and weavers from 14 states including Maharashtra have participated in this expo. This expo is open to the public till 5th March between 11 am to 8 pm.

Prof. Dr. Kulkarni said, “This is an effort to bring various fabrics like handloom, cotton, silk, and linen to choosy customers of Pune. This expo full of exotic expressions, designs, and quality fabrics is a feast for women. This expo is bound to get an overwhelming response in the city.”

Shrinivas Rao said, “This expo is timed just a few days before the festival of Gudhi Padwa and wedding season. The fabric is classy to refine the beauty and attractiveness of women. There are marvelous pieces of great design works by the artisans. Fresh, pure, and nascent handmade sarees, dress material, and other items are available at this expo.”

“This expo includes sarees from various states like boutique sarees from West Bengal, Printed, Chanderi, Paithani, Banarasi, Garhwal, Kalamkari, Kanchipuram, Karvathi. Sarees, dress Material, and other items from the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Gujrat, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh can be seen and bought at this exhibition,” he added.
