TRTI & TDD celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples as International Tribal Day in numerous cities pan Maharashtra.

Pune: Tribal Research & Training Institute, Pune and Tribal Development Department organised numerous events in different cities of Maharashtra Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Aurangabad, Chandrapur, Gondia, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Bhamragarh, Wardha, Nandurbar, Amravati, Dhule, Dahanu, Kalwan, Shahpur, Pen, Ghodegaon, Thane, Mumbai amongst others. The organizations invited and ensured participation from the tribal communities and tribes. The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is celebrated globally on 9 August and this year made it more special along with the 75th year of Indian independence.

The activities included painting competitions, inauguration of Aashram schools, marathon races, dance competitions, rangoli competitions, folk dance performances, singing competitions, release of colourful balloons in the air along with school students, felecitating tribal students who have passed 10th and 12th Class for their outstanding performances amongst others.

Dr.Rajendra Bharud- Commissioner, Tribal Research & Training Institute, Pune extended his wishes and said, “The day is of huge significance to all tribals of Maharashtra and TRTI along with its partner associations, ensures such activities, motivate tribal students to participate and gain confidence”.

Shri.Shyamkant Daundkar – Administrative Officer of the Department, said that it is necessary to create awareness among the tribal community about tribal ashram schools so that more kids can be educated and it creates job opportunities for a better and brighter future.

Shr. Dashrath Panmand, Director of PVTG Cell, said that it is necessary to reach out to the tribals and provide them a platform for their talent, so as to bring them into the mainstream of development.

Numerous stories and motivational quotes related to Tribal revolutionaries were read and a poem was presented in Korku language at TRTI, Pune by Shri. Sanjay Ingle, Project Coordinator, PVTG Scheme.
