On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, National Museum of Indian Cinema is exhibiting Satyajit Ray’s Gallery and screening films made by and on Satyajit Ray
Pune (P&V News Service): On the occasion of commemoration of Satyajit Ray’s Birth Centenary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has initiated various activities to pay tribute to the legendary filmmaker, National Museum of Indian Cinema, Mumbai shall have a three day film festival at various venues across India to celebrate his films. The screening of films made by & made on Satyajit Ray, shall be held at New Delhi , Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru & Pune on 2nd 3rd& 4th May 2022. The screenings at all venues is for free. The audiences will appreciate a slate of films that celebrate Ray’s life and also they will get to experience his celebrated films on big screens.
National Museum of Indian Cinema, Mumbai in association with National Film Development Corporation, Films Division, National Film Archives of India & Doordarshan and supported by Government of West Bengal and Aurora Film Corporation & Friends Communication is organizing the Film Festival. The Satyajit Ray film festival shall begin with the red carpet & inauguration of the Satyajit Ray’s semi-permanent Gallery by Multi honoured Shri Shyam Benegal on 2nd May 2022 at 10:00 AM followed by the screening of the opening film at the festivalAparajito, which is it’s ‘IndiaPremier’, the film is produced by Shri Firdausul Hassan& Probal Haldar and directed by Shri Anik Datta, inspired by the making of Satyajit Ray’s Pather Panchali. Furthermore, a panel discussion is scheduled to be held on 4th May 2022 at 4:00 PM post the screening of Pather Panchali(Satyajit Ray’s directorial debut feature),the closing film of the festival. The panel discussion shall be live on NFDC’s official Facebook for all audiences especially the cinephiles & aficionados of Ray’s work. The panellists will be Shri Shyam Benegal, Shri Barun Chanda(actor from Ray’s Seemabadh) & Shri Shantanu Moitra, it will be moderated by Shri Shankhayan Ghosh.
Mr Ravinder Bhakar, Managing Director NFDC India, expressed that “ On the occasion of Azaadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, it is a great honour for us to celebrate the birth centenary & roll out a special gallery at National Museum of Indian Cinema as a tribute to the legendary filmmaker. People have seen Ray’s films in some form or the other yet this time we invite Ray lovers for our handpicked package on the big screens in selected theatres for free in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Pune from 2nd May to the 4th May 2022. The newly restored few by NFAI are a delight to watch.
Besides, premiering Aparajito, slated to release on the 13th may, the other films include NFDC’s Agantuk, Ghare Baire, Ganashatrudirected by Satyajit Ray&Music of Satyajit Ray directed by Utpalendu Chakraborty, Nemai Ghosh – A Ray of Light directed by Anirban Mitra & Tirtho Dasgupta, Films Divisions documentaries & shorts Inner Eye, Rabindranath Tagore are directed by Satyajit Ray, Satyajit Ray directed by Shyam Benegal, Creative Artists of India – Satyajit Ray, directed by B.D. Garga, NFAI’s newly restored films Sonar Kella, Seemabadha, Hirak Rajar Deshe all directed by Satyajit Ray, Government of West Bengal’s Pather Panchali print from the Academy Film Archive’s landmark restoration of the film from negatives nearly lost in a fire is screening. Also films produced by Independent filmmakers Aparajito, Jalsaghar both directed by Satyajit Ray.
AboutNational Museum of Indian Cinema (NMIC) –
The Museum is housed in two buildings – the New Museum Building and the 19th century historic palace Gulshan Mahal – both at the Films Division campus in Mumbai.
Gulshan Mahal is an ASI Grade-II Heritage Structure which has been restored as part of the NMIC project. The displays present here showcase the journey of over a hundred years of Indian cinema. It is divided into 9 sections viz. The Origin of Cinema, Cinema comes to India, Indian Silent Film, Advent of Sound, The Studio Era, The impact of World War II, Creative Resonance, New Wave and Beyond and Regional Cinema.
About National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) –
Incorporated in the year 1975 National Film Development Corporation Ltd is formed by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Government of India) with the primary objective of promoting the good cinema movement in India. NFDC is instrumental in creating an ecosystem to support the financing, distribution and development of independent films across the country in various Indian languages.

नॅशनल म्युझियम ऑफ इंडियन सिनेमा मध्ये सत्यजित रायच्या चित्रपटांचा उत्सव
स्वातंत्र्याच्या अमृत महोत्सवाचे औचित्य साधून नॅशनल म्युझियम ऑफ इंडियन सिनेमा सत्यजित रायच्या गॅलरीचे प्रदर्शन तसेच सत्यजित राय यांच्या चित्रपटांचे आणि त्यांच्यावर आधारित चित्रपटांचे स्क्रीनिंग योजणार आहे.
सत्यजित राय यांच्या जन्म शताब्दी वर्षाच्या निमित्ताने माहिती आणि प्रसारण मंत्रालयाने या महान दिग्दर्शकाला श्रद्धांजली वाहण्यासाठी विविध उपक्रम योजले आहेत. नॅशनल म्युझियम ऑफ इंडियन सिनेमा, मुंबईने तीन दिवासीय चिटपट महोत्सवाचे आयोजन केले असून भारतातील विविध ठिकाणी त्यांच्या चित्रपटाचे स्क्रीनिंग करण्यात येणार आहे. सत्यजित राय यांच्या चित्रपटांचे आणि त्यांच्यावरील चित्रपटांचे स्क्रीनिंग 2, 3 आणि 4 मे 2022 रोजी नवी दिल्ली, मुंबई, चेन्नई, कोलकाता, बंगळूर आणि पुणे येथे योजण्यात आले आहे. या सर्व ठिकाणी ही स्क्रीनिंग निःशुल्क आहेत. या आयोजनामुळे प्रेक्षकांना सत्यजित राय यांचे गाजलेले चित्रपट मोठ्या पडद्यावर बघायला मिळतील आणि त्यांच्या जीवनावर आधारित फिल्म्समधून सत्यजित राय यांच्या जीवनाचा आढावा देखील घेता येईल.
नॅशनल म्युझियम ऑफ इंडियन सिनेमा, मुंबई हे नॅशनल फिल्म डेव्हलपमेंट कॉर्पोरेशन, फिल्म्स डिव्हिजन, नॅशनल फिल्म आर्काईव्ह्ज् ऑफ इंडिया आणि दूरदर्शन यांच्या सहयोगाने तसेच पश्चिम बंगाल सरकार आणि ऑरोरा फिल्म कॉर्पोरेशन आणि फ्रेंड्स कम्युनिकेशन यांच्या साहाय्याने या चित्रपट महोत्सवाचे आयोजन करत आहे. सत्यजित राय चित्रपट महोत्सवाची सुरुवात 2 मे 2022 रोजी सकाळी 10 वाजता रेड कार्पेटने आणि अनेक सन्मान प्राप्त श्री. श्याम बेनेगल यांच्या हस्ते सत्यजित राय यांच्या अर्ध-स्थायी गॅलरीच्या उद्घाटनाने होईल आणि त्यानंतर ‘अपराजितो’ या फिल्मचे स्क्रीनिंग होईल. हा या फिल्मचा ‘इंडिया प्रिमियर’ असेल. या चित्रपटाची निर्मिती श्री. फिरदौसुल हसन यांनी केली असून श्री. अनिक दत्ता यांनी त्याचे दिग्दर्शन केले आहे. हा चित्रपट सत्यजित राय यांच्या पथेर पांचालीच्या निर्मितीवरून प्रेरित आहे. दिनांक 4 मे 2022 रोजी पथेर पांचाली (सत्यजित राय यांनी दिग्दर्शित केलेला पहिला चित्रपट) च्या स्क्रीनिंगनंतर दुपारी 4 वाजता एका पॅनल चर्चेचे आयोजन करण्यात आले आहे. हे या महोत्सवातील शेवटचे स्क्रीनिंग असेल. ही पॅनल चर्चा NFDC च्या अधिकृत फेसबुकवर सर्व प्रेक्षकांसाठी, विशेषतः चित्रपट रसिकांसाठी आणि सत्यजित राय यांच्या चित्रपटांच्या भोक्त्यांसाठी लाईव्ह असेल. या चर्चेत सहभागी होतील श्री. श्याम बेनेगल, श्री. बरूण चंदा (राय यांच्या सीमाबद्ध चित्रपटातील अभिनेता) आणि श्री. शांतनू मोईत्रा. या चर्चेचे संचालन करतील श्री. शंखायन घोष.
NFDC इंडियाचे व्यवस्थापकीय संचालक श्री. रविंदर भाकर म्हणाले, “स्वातंत्र्याच्या अमृत महोत्सवी वर्षात सत्यजित राय यांचे जन्मशताब्दी वर्ष साजरे करताना आणि या महान चित्रपट दिग्दर्शकाला श्रद्धांजली देताना नॅशनल म्युझियम ऑफ इंडियन सिनेमा येथे एका खास गॅलरीचे उद्घाटन करताना आम्ही गौरव अनुभवत आहोत. लोकांनी राय यांचे चित्रपट या ना त्या रूपात पाहिले आहेतच, पण यावेळी आम्ही राय यांच्या चाहत्यांना 2 मे ते 4 मे दरम्यान दिल्ली, मुंबई, चेन्नई कोलकाता, बंगळूर आणि पुणे येथे काही निवडक चित्रपटगृहांमध्ये मोठ्या पडद्यांवर त्यांचे काही निवडक चित्रपट पाहण्यासाठी आमंत्रित करत आहोत. NFAI द्वारा अलीकडेच रिस्टोर करण्यात आलेले काही चित्रपट म्हणजे रसिकांसाठी पर्वणी असेल.
