NAREDCO hosts ‘Pune Growth Conclave’ to mark the first anniversary of Pune Chapter 

Futuristic thinking is the essence of growth of any city worldwide. Although there are various aspects and issues including environment, safety and security, livability amongst others , government and non-government partners together can ensure unhindered pace of development and growth opined various speakers  in a discussion hosted by National Real Estate Development Council (NAREDCO) Pune Chapter here on Friday. 

Municipal Commissioners of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, Police Commissioner of Pune, Divisional Commissioner of Pune as well as many senior functionaries of local administration and top level bureaucrats of Central and State governments participated in the discussion “Enabling Pune’s development for future growth” which was a part of Pune Growth Conclave organised to mark first anniversary of NAREDCO Pune Chapter at Hotel JW Marriott.

NAREDCO Pune president Rajendra Pate, National President Rajan Bandelkar , Vice Presidents Bharat Agarwal , Mukesh Yeole , Balasaheb Karanjule , Vineet Goyal and Secretary Abhay Kele , representatives of various real estate organizations attended the event. Bharat Agarwal, vice president of NARDECO Pune moderated the discussion.

Secretary, Housing Department, Government of India Manoj Joshi, Maharashtra additional chief secretary of urban development Bhushan Gagrani and MHADA chairman Anil Diggikar addressed the event in video conferencing.  

Mr Vikram Kumar, Municipal Commissioner of Pune said Pune is witnessing influx of over two lakh people each year and we will soon be a one crore people city. This will put tremendous pressure on city amenities such as roads, transport or waste disposal. New financial models for funding new projects will be needed and organizations such as NAREDCO can chip in,” Mr Kumar said, citing examples of bonds issued by PMC for water supply, road development and riverfront improvement projects. 

Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao said if livability index of Pune has to rise ,infrastructure has to be augmented and it is the responsibility of administration to ensure unhindered its development. “Pune has a different nice image in the minds of people all over the country and this has been achieved by administration and people working hand in hand,” Mr Rao said, adding that projects such as metro railway and ring road will add to Pune’s importance as a preferred place for employment education or settling down. The city should strive to be a safe, peaceful place with a high livability index, he said. 

Safety and Security. Basic Amenities  , Health and Hygiene , Environment , Transportation are the five pillars on which our future plan will depend .

PCMC Commissioner Rajesh Patil said Pimpri-Chinchwad is undergoing major infrastructure development projects such as roads, bridges or grade separaters and is taking major steps towards domestic waste disposal.

Rajendra Nimbalkar, CEO of Slum Development Authority (SRA), Pune, said more proactive interventions are planned by SRA after principally thinking through policy bottlenecks or technical issues. New policies will come with more technical clarity and more opportunities for stakeholders. Developers should take pride in slum redevelopment projects which also offer business opportunities.”

Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta Pune police will always find out from frequently interacting with various departments to understand what best can be done in terms of law and order

Earlier,  NAREDCO Pune vice president Bharat Agarwal welcomed the speakers and participants. In his opening remarks, NAREDCO Pune president Rajendra Pate said one year of working of NAREDCO Pune Chapter was a good learning experience in which all real estate related bodies have been cooperative.  Maharashtra State has been proactive in helping real estate sector but a wider and faster infrastructure development of the city will help boost real estate business and address housing requirements of its people. Developers in the city should take initiative in infrastructure development by engaging in private public participation opportunities offered by government. 

Rajendra Bandelkar, National President of NAREDCO, stated that real estate sector is undergoing tough time and though the government has been helpful by introducing unified development rules, more has to done in areas such as GST as applicable to real estate sector. 

In the second segment of the event NAREDCO Pune vice President Bharat Agarwal interviewed Niranjan Hiranandani, the doyen of India’s real estate business. In this free wheeling interaction Dr Hiranandani elaborated on the importance of sensing an opportunity and grabbing it well before others. He also narrated his journey in the real estate business and explained his approach of making projects which are better than the best at a given time. Dr Hiranandani dwelt upon how his father inspired him to keep learning continuously which kept has kept him going strong .  He shed light on his social and charitable work specially in the education and healthcare areas.
