Pune (P&V News Service) : Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association and Deccan Gymkhana will host the Aryan Pumps Asian Junior Tennis Championship the most reputed tennis championship in the Asian circuit for the U/18 category. The Championship, which is the only B1 category tournament in Asia, will take place from December 5- December 12 at the Deccan Gymkhana Tennis courts in Pune.
“The tournament is being held in India and Pune after a gap of 4 years, we would like to thank the Asian Tennis Federation and the All India Tennis Association for allotting this tournament to India and Maharashtra in spite of stiff competition from other Asian countries ” said Mr.Sunder Iyer, Hon Sec of MSLTA and Mr. Prashant Sutar, Chairman and Managing Director of Aryan Pumps and VP of MSLTA and Mr.Ashwin Girme, Tennis Secretary of Deccan Gymkhana.
We are thankful to Mr Sutar and Aryan Pumps for sponsoring this exclusive event which budgets more than ₹25 lakhs, added Mr Iyer.

Players from 11 countries in the region (Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, Hong-Kong, Malaysia, China, Sri Lanka, Iran and India) are participating in the Championship which is open to Asian players . The Championship is the second highest tournament anywhere in the world after the junior grand slams, and provides top Indian players a chance to compete against their global counterparts as well as earn valuable ITF points to build on their overall international ranking and considered an important landmark in career of any junior player. The winners of the Asian Championships are eligible to get an entry into any Grand Slam Junior event in the coming year., Iyer informed
Held under the aegis of the International Tennis Federation (ITF); Asian Tennis Federation (ATF); All India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), the six-day Championship will witness participation from over 90 Indian and international players in the Singles and Doubles categories for both boys and girls. Each category draw will be of 32, will include the top 22 players (basis their ITF ranking) who will get direct entry into the main draw and the remaining players will be drawn from the qualifying matches and wild cards. 28 Indian players will feature in the main draws this year. Pari Chavan, Priynashi Panigrahi, Kothishta Modak, Parv Nage, Skandha Rao, Aryan Sutar Jaishanv Shinde have been given wildcards for the tournaments. The winner of the championship will get 300 points while the runner up will get 210 points. On entry in Round of 32 players will get 30 points.

ITF White Badge referee Leena Nageskar has been appointed as the ITF Supervisor for the event. The ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors Featuring over 650 tournaments in 140 countries, the Tour sees players compete across six levels of tournament – from JA (which includes the junior Grand Slams) through to J1, J2, J3, J4 and J5 (the lowest grade). The ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors provides a launch pad for the best players to go on and achieve success in the professional game.
