Pune: PBMA’s H. V. Desai Eye Hospital, Pune, hosted a sensitization programme for about 200 ASHA and Anganwadi Workers including 20 Community Health Officers (CHOs) from Bhor Taluka, with a focus on strengthening awareness about early detection, timely referral and treatment of eye disorders.
The programme was held under the leadership of Mr. Amol Nalawade, Agriculture Committee Chairman. Dr. Deokar and Dr. Tidke, Taluka Medical Officers; along with local representatives Mr. Kiran Raut Vishal Konde, Mauli Khutwad and Zilla Parishad member Mr. Pravin Jagdale were present on the occasion.
The participants were given information about the importance of identifying eye-related concerns at an early stage and facilitating timely access to appropriate treatment. The program included a guided tour of H. V. Desai Eye Hospital, followed by an informative session at the hospital auditorium.
The session provided insights into the hospital’s eye care services and facilities, common eye diseases, their symptoms, and the importance of timely referral. Mr. Parvez Bilimoria, Executive Director, PBMA’s H. V. Desai Eye Hospital; Dr. Kuldeep Dole, Executive Medical Director (Network); and Dr. Varsha Puranik, Unit Head and LASIK In-charge, Dr. Pravin Narbadkar, Project Manager were present on the occasion.
An eye check-up camp was also organised for the participating ASHA workers as part of the initiative.
ASHA and Anganwadi Workers play a crucial role as a link between communities and the healthcare system. Their close interaction with families and communities places them in a strong position to identify health concerns, encourage timely medical attention and promote awareness about preventive healthcare.
Dr. Kuldeep Dole, Executive Medical Director (Network), PBMA’s H.V Desai Eye Hospital said that such initiatives can help strengthen community-level awareness and referral networks to ensure that people with eye-related concerns receive appropriate care without delay.
Currently H.V Desai Eye Hospital has more than 40 vision centres strongly supported by it’s main campus at Pune, a hospital in Nandurbar, a recently established super speciality hospital at Solapur and satellite centre at Kalyani Nagar.
