Pune: With patriotic slogans of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Vande Mataram’, colourful traditional attire, a disciplined parade by cadets and cultural performances, MIT Art, Design and Technology University celebrated India’s 80th Independence Day with enthusiasm at its MAEER’s MIT Academy of Engineering and Technology (MANET) campus at Loni-Kalbhor.
Indian Ministry of External Affairs joint secretary (States) A Ajay Kumar and Major General Dr Tajuddin Mhaisal, VSM (Retd), were the chief guests. MIT-ADT University Executive president and pro-chancellor Prof Dr Mangesh Karad, executive director Prof Dr Sunita Karad, vice-chancellor Prof Dr Rajesh S, provost Prof Dr Sayali Ganakar, pro-vice-chancellor Dr Ramchandra Pujeri, Dr Mohit Dubey, Dr Nachiket Thakur, Dr Mahesh Chopde, Manet Principal Captain Prerit Mishra and other senior officials were present.
Addressing students, Ajay Kumar said knowledge was an individual’s greatest asset and urged students not to chase success but focus on acquiring knowledge. “The knowledge you acquire should be used for the development of the country. Success will follow automatically,” he said.
Major General Mhaisal said India had made significant progress across sectors over the past 79 years and that students would play a crucial role in the country’s journey towards becoming a developed nation. He urged them to remain focused on contributing to national development despite multiple distractions. He also described artificial intelligence as an opportunity rather than a challenge and encouraged students to use AI to promote innovation.
Prof Dr Mangesh Karad said India’s Independence was achieved through the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters. He said Independence Day should not merely be seen as a celebration but as an occasion to reaffirm the commitment towards nation-building.
“Today’s youth should embrace emerging technologies, artificial intelligence and innovation to accelerate India’s development. With knowledge, skills and commitment to the nation, they should contribute to building a self-reliant India and help realise the dream of making India one of the world’s leading global powers,” Karad said.
The celebrations began with a flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by a disciplined band parade by MANET cadets and a salute by MIT NCC cadets. Students of MIT Vishwashanti Gurukul presented a cultural dance performance, while students of MIT Sangeet Academy performed patriotic songs.
The programme was introduced by student Nandini Gupta, while Dr Suraj Bhoyar, director of the Student Welfare Department, proposed the vote of thanks.
