‘Quiz on Korea 2026’ India Preliminary Round Held at King Sejong Institute Pune, Draws 105 Participants

Pune: The India preliminary round of ‘Quiz on Korea 2026’ was held at the King Sejong Institute Pune on Saturday, drawing 105 participants from across the country and reflecting the growing interest among Indian youth in the Korean language and culture. Sarah Patel emerged as the winner of the competition and will represent India at the global finals, scheduled to be held in the Republic of Korea later this year.

The event was jointly organised by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Mumbai, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS), and the King Sejong Institute Pune as part of the global Quiz on Korea programme. Dr Eunjoo Lim, Director of the King Sejong Institute, Pune were present on the occasion.

Addressing the participants, Consul General Yoo Dong-wan said that initiatives such as the Quiz on Korea help transform young people’s interest in Korean culture into deeper learning, mutual understanding, and long-term partnerships between India and the Republic of Korea. He said the programme provides opportunities for participants to gain authentic knowledge about Korea while building friendships through cultural exchanges. He also noted that Korea is committed to expanding cooperation with India in education, advanced technology, research, innovation, and youth exchanges, creating new opportunities beyond the popularity of K-pop and K-dramas. Referring to Pune’s growing importance, he described the city as a hub of education, innovation, and industry, with immense potential to strengthen future Korea-India collaboration.

In her welcoming remarks, Dr. Eunjoo Lim, Director of King Sejong Institute Pune, expressed her hope that curiosity about culture would foster deeper people-to-people connections. She added that she would work to lay the foundation for Korean Studies in western India so that interest in Korea could grow beyond cultural appreciation into academic exploration.

Participants competed in a quiz covering the Korean language, history, society, traditional and contemporary culture, and K-pop. The top three performers were honoured with certificates and prizes, with Sarah Patel securing first place and qualifying for the international finals, while Vaishnavi Chavan finished second, and Megha Sharma secured third place.
The programme also featured a lucky draw in which participants won Korean-themed gifts, including K-pop albums. Performances by the King Sejong Institute Pune clubs, showcasing Korean music and dance, added to the celebrations and received an enthusiastic audience response.
