Delaying Dental Care Can Cost More Than You Think: Experts Urge Preventive Approach

Pune: Oral health remains one of the most overlooked aspects of healthcare in India, with many individuals choosing to delay treatment until discomfort becomes severe. However, dental experts warn that this reactive approach often leads to more complex procedures, higher costs, and avoidable complications.

Dr. Preyas Gaikwad, a Pune-based dental practitioner, notes that most dental issues—ranging from cavities and gum infections to alignment concerns—develop gradually and can be effectively managed if detected early. “When patients come in at the right time, treatments are simpler, faster, and far less expensive. Delays only make the situation more complicated,” he says.

Modern dental care has evolved significantly, with clinics now offering comprehensive services for both adults and children, including preventive care, restorative treatments, and emergency interventions. Increasingly, dental practices are also focusing on making treatments more accessible through structured systems and patient-friendly processes.

One key shift has been the introduction of flexible payment options, including EMI-based plans, which allow patients to undergo necessary treatments without immediate financial strain. This is particularly relevant for families, where dental needs often span across age groups.

Experts emphasise that oral health is closely linked to overall well-being, affecting nutrition, speech, and even systemic health conditions. Regular check-ups and early intervention, they say, are critical in reducing long-term health risks.

The broader message remains clear: dental care should not be postponed. A preventive approach not only protects health but also reduces both emotional and financial burden in the long run.
