Friends of Manipur Committee Formed in Pune to Promote Peace
Pune: Various social, educational and cultural organisations in Pune have come together to form a peace initiative titled “Friends of Manipur Committee” with the aim of promoting peace and harmony in the violence-affected state of Manipur.
The committee has been established in response to the continuing unrest in Manipur over the past three years. The members said the initiative will focus on creating awareness, building solidarity and supporting efforts for peace in the region.
Speaking at a press conference, Manipur social activist Santosh Kumar Singh and Advocate Chandrakant Ghanekar informed that the committee will operate from Prabhat Road in Pune and will coordinate activities through various social organisations.
Several prominent members of civil society were present at the event, including Ismail Sheikh from the National Integration Committee, Dilip Singh Vishwakarma of the Aware Punekar Manch, Dr. Prasad Phatak, Rajesh Sharma, and Advocate Anant Darwatkar.
The committee has also appointed senior personalities as guides, including former police officer Suresh Khopde, Sanjay Nahar, founder of Sarhad Sanstha, and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Y. C. Pawar.
Members of the newly formed committee expressed hope that collective efforts from citizens and organisations across the country will contribute towards restoring peace and stability in Manipur.
The committee includes: Sarhad foundation,Gyan Prabodhini, Vande Mataram Sanghatana, Zen Master of Tibet,Maha Metro Pratisthan, Mahamata Ramai Bhimrao Ambedkar Rashtriya Smarak Sanstha, Nationalist movement of India, National Social harmony Samiti, Shiv Chatra Foundation, Akara maruti Kopra ganesh Mandal, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada Vikash Mandal, Kunbi Maratha Yuvak Sangh, Akhil Bhartiya Kunabi Samaj Seva Sangh, Pune Jana hit vikash pratisthan, Akhil Deshmukh Maratha Maha sangh, Bhartiya Krantikari Vidyarthi Parishad, Akhil Bhartiy vidharthi Sena, Rashtriya Jana Jagaran Samiti, Patit Pawan Sanghatana
