Pune: The Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI), in association with the Pune Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (POGS), successfully organized the Sampoorna Public Forum, a program on Preconception Care on Thursday , at IMA Hall, Tilak Road, Pune. The community-focused event aimed to raise awareness about preconception health and promote healthier pregnancies and safer motherhood.
The program was held under the leadership of Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar, President FOGSI. Renowned actress Mrunmayee Deshpande was the Chief Guest for the program. Dr. Manish Machave (President, POGS), Dr. Ashwini Kale (Joint Secretary, FOGSI), Dr. Nilesh Balakawade (General Secretary, POGS), Dr. Pooja Lodha (Organizing Secretary) Dr Vaijayanti Patwardhan, Dr Revati Rane were the convenors.

The event convened leading experts and enthusiastic community members in an engaging blend of education and creativity.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sunita Tandulwadkar said,“ Preconception care is the first step toward a healthy pregnancy and a healthy nation. Every pregnancy should be planned properly . Key parameters like weight , haemoglobin , blood pressure , blood sugar level , thyroid hormones should be checked while planning . Through the Sampoorna initiative, FOGSI aims to reach communities across India, educating families about the importance of early health interventions and holistic wellness. We have been conducting various programs through our 292 societies across India in an effort to reduce mortality. Till now we have done around 300 such programs for sensitisation of public and aim to do 25 more programs by January 2026. The program has been applauded at international forums including the recent conference at Cape Town .
Renowned Actress Mrunmayee Deshpande said that ‘Sampoorna’ is the need of the hour . With changing times and race for survival, uncertainty and volatility the concept of pre- conception planning assumes greater importance . This concept should be talked about with greater awareness .
The Sampoorna Public Forum also set the stage for FOGSI Presidential Conference – STAR Sampoorna, focusing on Strategy, Transformation, Advancement, and Research in women’s healthcare.
Dr. Ashwin Kale, Joint Secretary FOGSI said Every pregnancy should be a planned pregnancy for a healthy mother and healthy family .
Dr. Manish Machve, President POGS said that Pregnancy should be given time , energy and effort . Main effort is to reduce the maternal mortality with awareness and empowerment programs like these .

Through initiatives like Sampoorna, FOGSI continues its commitment to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality by empowering communities with knowledge, access, and awareness. The organization’s ongoing efforts in preconception and maternal health education are a testament to its mission of building a healthier, safer future for mothers and babies.
Adding vibrancy to the event, a Dance Competition (Theme: “Maa”) and a Skit Competition (Theme: “Safe Motherhood”) encouraged public participation, with creative performances spreading messages of care, empowerment, and responsibility. Winners were felicitated with attractive prizes to recognize their contribution to community health awareness.
