R. B. Suryawanshi, Nilesh Chavan honoured for contributions to the construction sector on Engineers’ Day
Pune: “Civil engineers have an extraordinary role in nation-building. From roads, bridges, dams, canals, ports, airports, and housing to schools, colleges, and hospitals, their contribution forms the foundation of development. Hence, engineers must continuously nurture innovation, responsibility, and skills,” said Dr. Hemant Dhumal, Chief Engineer, Water Resources Department, while addressing a gathering on the occasion of Engineers’ Day.
He urged engineers to work with passion, perseverance, and innovation while spreading knowledge and goodwill in society. The event was organised by the Builders’ Association of India (BAI) at the Residency Club to mark the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, considered the father of modern engineering in India. The programme began with floral tributes to his portrait.
On the occasion, R. B. Suryawanshi, Vice President of B. G. Shirke Group, and Nilesh Chavan, founder of Escon Projects, were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to the construction industry. Programme sponsors Deepak Jagdale, Director, Shriconst Framework, and his team were also recognised.
The event was attended by Jagannath Jadhav (President, BAI Maharashtra), Manoj Deshmukh (Secretary), Ajay Gujar (President, BAI Pune), Rajaram Hajare and Mahesh Maydev (Vice Presidents), C. H. Ratlani (Secretary), and Mahesh Rathi (Treasurer), among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Suryawanshi said, “For national progress, building a good society is essential. Citizens must have a sense of duty and integrity. For over six decades, B. G. Shirke Group has contributed to industrialising construction technology. Young engineers must embrace hard work, consistency, and innovation to achieve their goals.”
“Engineers’ Day is celebrated to honour Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, the architect of India’s progress. His life, based on hard work, honesty, discipline, and public welfare, is exemplary. Along with him, B. G. Shirke has also been my role model for over six decades. I urge young engineers to read their works and imbibe their values,” he added.
Chavan added, “Hard work, honesty, and a goal-driven approach have defined our journey. The trust of customers and the support of colleagues form the real foundation of our work. The construction sector plays a key role in society’s development, and our responsibility is to create sustainable, quality projects that generate employment and boost modern infrastructure.”
Deepak Jagdale also highlighted the growth journey of his company. In his welcome address, Ajay Gujar said, “This annual event is organised to honour engineers who have contributed significantly to the field of construction. It serves as an inspiration to young engineers.”
The programme was coordinated by Sunil Mate and Shivkumar Bhalla, with Sanjay Apte compering and C. H. Ratlani delivering the vote of thanks.
