Pune: In a heartwarming display of compassion and presence of mind, Dr. Vikas Patil, Consultant in the Department of Paediatrics & Neonatology at Noble Hospitals, Pune, turned his personal vehicle into an ambulance to save a young girl’s life.
On an otherwise routine day of 30th June at his private clinic in B T Kawade Road Ghorpadi , Dr. Patil was attending to patients when a mother brought in her young daughter age 3.5 years who had developed a high grade fever after returning home from nursery. After clinical assessment, Dr. Patil gave provided the necessary prescription and treatment, and the mother took her child to a nearby medical shop.
However, shortly after purchasing the medication from a nearby medical store , the child had convulsion and collapsed, prompting the distressed mother to rush back to the clinic. Realising urgency of the situation, the fact that the girl would require oxygen and with the ambulance expected to take time, Dr. Patil made a swift decision to personally take the child to Noble Hospital after necessary treatment
The journey, however, was not without obstacles. Stuck in Pune’s routine traffic congestion, Dr. Patil stepped out of his car and urged commuters to make way — a call that was met with support. Upon reaching Noble Hospital, the child was immediately admitted, given prompt medical attention, and stabilized by Noble team led by Dr Patil under the guidance of Dr. P D POTE, HOD Paediatric Department.She was admitted in the ICU and then shifted to ward the next day . She was successfully discharged in stable condition at 6th July.
Expressing gratitude, the parents lauded Dr. Patil’s timely intervention and humanity.
