Upskilling, expansion of job role keeps nurses on toes 

Pune : Continuous education, upskilling and expansion of job roles is creating opportunities and keeping nurses on toes according to nursing experts . 

The International Nurses Day is celebrated on 12 May every year on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. The theme for International Nurses Day 2025 is “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for nurses strengthens economies”.

Ms.Sarika Bhosale , HOD Nursing Department at VishwaRaj Hospital, Loni said that the medical advances in treatment, surgery and post surgical care with new technologies including AI, Robotics etc and digitalization of administrative work , the nurses are also upskilling themselves with continuous education, adapting to new technologies and evolving roles. From bedside care, the nursing care now also involves specialised nursing roles, administrative work, education and research which has tremendously expanded the scope of work . 

Therefore programs like  Continuous Nursing Education ( CNE) are  crucial for nurses to surge ahead in the dynamic changing environment. The growing requirements of healthcare presents  challenges as well as opportunities, she said . Challenges include retaining staff with the ever growing healthcare sector in India as well as outside. Many patients search the internet and come with expectations of a certain line of treatment . Here the nurses have an important role to play as the frontline healthcare workers and refined communication skills is the need of the hour . But all these things also mean tremendous opportunities and youngsters should look at it as a career giving opportunity to serve people which is extremely satisfying. 

Also Growing medical tourism means the world is looking at India for quality care and nurses have an important role in shaping the healthcare of future in India .
