Collaborative efforts needed to tackle waste and resource management

Pune: Collaborative efforts with more industry and citizens participation are a key to tackle waste and resource management challenges opined various experts. CII Godrej Green Business Centre organized a Waste and Resource Management Summit as a part of the ‘GreenCo Summit’ at Hotel Westin on Thursday. The summit deliberated on various important topics including Innovations: Raising the bar of net zero through circular economy, Enablers to a Circular Economy, Recycling: A key pillar to circular economy, Opportunities to speed up the transition to a circular economy amongst others. The Waste and Resource Management Summit was inaugurated in presence of PCMC Commissioner Mr.Shekhar Singh (I.A.S.) .  Pradeep Bhargava, Chairman Green Co Summit and Chairman,CII GreenCo Council, Vaishali Surawar Chairman, CII-GreenCo Mumbai Forum and Mr.Muthusezhiyan, Deputy Executive Director CII Godrej GBC and others.

Taking about the various initiatives of PCMC including sustainability cell Shekhar Singh, IAS said that there is a need to having closer collaboration with the industry and increase community and citizens participation and other partners to bring synergies together. We need the industry to participate more in the development of the city. He added that at a time when we are discussing the three R’s of Reduce, ReUse and Recycle,  our thrust should be also be on ‘Reduce’ and bring it to our own life practice.

Dr. Pradeep Bhargava Chairperson CII GreenCo Summit said that all enterprises need to be sensitive to environment. Natural resources are the backbone of any industry. With rapid growth material consumption or natural resource consumption has gone up significantly. Urbanization is a phenomena and is becoming dense and intense. But we have the capacity to convert a challenges like these into opportunities. There is need for leadership, innovation and collaboration.

Vaishali Surawar Chairman, CII-GreenCo Mumbai Forum said that the main objective of Waste and Resource Management Summit was to explore the latest concepts and emerging technologies in waste and resources management, facilitate interactions  and disseminate knowledge amongst businesses to build capacity.
