Inauguration of International Trainees Hostel “SANGAM”at Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM)

Pune Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management, Pune, Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, inaugurated its newly constructed International Trainees Hostel “SANGAM” by the hands of Shri. B. L. Verma, Honorable Minister of State for Cooperation and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, Government of India. Dr. Manoj Nardevsing, Secretary, African-Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO), New Delhi was the Guest of Honour and and (Dr.) Parag Kalkar Pro-Vice Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Shri. Sanjay Shinde, IG of Police -CID, were Special Guest for this inauguration function.


The inauguration function began with an auspicious Lighting of Lamp and Ganesh Vandana followed by unveiling of the Plaque. The guests were taken for tour of the International Trainees Hostel. After the inauguration of the International Trainees Hostel, the function was taken ahead in the Jubilee Hall. Dr. Hema Yadav, Director, VAMNICOM & CICTAB delivered the welcomed address.

In her address she has mentioned that institute has trained more than 15000 participants of cooperatives across the country out of which 50% trainees are women from Dairy Cooperatives, Fishery Cooperatives and Cooperative Banks, etc. The Institute is continuously giving training to women on financial inclusion, business plan development, governance and leadership etc. Under new education policy VAMNICOM has developed an incubation centre under which 20 startups has been registered. Under the CICTAB, different training programmes are organized for SAARC countries. The recent partnership between African Asian Rural Development Organization (AARDO) and CICTAB has helped in reaching countries far and wide. Now the cooperative movement of India needs to be taken at International level and this International Trainee Hostel named as ‘SANGAM’ will play a key role showcasing success of Indian cooperative models at International level. Director, VAMNICOM expressed thanks MoC for grant financial support for developing infrastructure.

(Dr.) Parag Kalkar Pro-Vice Chancellor, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), mentioned that VAMNICOM and Savitribai Phule Pune University has long relationship. Savitribai Phule Pune University in is process of launching MBA in Cooperative Management in collaboration with VAMNICOM in near future.

Shri. B.L. Verma, Honorable Minister in his speech mentioned that, recognizing the need of the farmers and cooperative sectors, Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi established the independent Ministry of Cooperation in 2021. After the formation of Ministry of Cooperation, large scale development activities have been implemented through various initiatives, like model bye-laws for PACS, computerization of PACS, Common Service Centre (CSC), opening of Petrol Pump, Gas Agency, Jan Aushadhi Kendra etc. This will make PACS more sustainable in the time. He appreciated the role of VAMNICOM in conducting training programmes by covering total 60,294 number of participants in last few years.

Till date under Centre for International Cooperation &Training in Agriculture Banking (CICTAB) conducted 211 training programmes for the SAARC countries. He appreciated VAMNICOM for developing infrastructure & has State of the Art facilities for Management education, training for cooperative sector in the Country. The Institute has achieved one more mile stone by constructing the International Trainees’ Hostel “SANGAM” with a capacity of 50 rooms, Library, Classrooms and separate Mess Facility. This is a first international hostel in India for catering international training programmes for cooperative sectors.
