Chandan Hi Chandan’… Enthusiastic in this Hindi Abhang concert.

by such one-by-one meaningful and beautifully composed Abhangas. ‘Chandan Hi Chandan’, a Hindi translation of Tukoba Raya’s Marathi Abhangas, was recently organized by Onkar Entertainment at Yashwantrao Chavan Theatre.

National award winning singer Rahul Deshpande and young talented singer Sharayu Date mesmerized the audience with their melodious singing. In this program, Rahul Deshpande was honored with a memento and a Maanpatra (Certificate Of Achievement) for receiving the National Award. A scholar of Sant Sahitya, philosopher and writer Sadanand More, Guruvarya Vedkumar Vedalankar, Film Maker Meghraj Raje Bhosle, Milind Lele, former corporator Medha Kulkarni, Kavita Joshi, Amar Joshi, Shweta Mendhekar, Manoj Sutwane and Vilas Kshirsagar etc. were present on this occasion. The creative direction of this program was done by Sunanda Kaluskar.

Organizer Pratibha Mendhekar’s teacher in Osmanabad University Prof. Vedkumar Vedalankar had given Mendhekar a book ‘Tukaram Padyavali’ of nearly five hundred Marathi Abhangas of Tukobaraya, which had been translated into Hindi, and asked Mendhekar to compose. 70 years old Pratibha Mendhekar who is a Musicologist decided to compose abhangas. She composed 90 popular-obsolete Hindi and Marathi abhangas based on Indian classical music. Now she intends to complete 108 Abhangs, Mendhekar said in her introductory speech.

Chandan Hi Chandan… is a program of translated Abhanga presented for the first time and it was conceptualized, produced and musically directed by Pratibha Nagesh Mendhekar. The singers were accompanied by Nikhil Phatak (Tabla), Aditya Oak (Harmonium), Anay Gadgil (Key Board), Prasad Joshi (Pakhawaj), Rohan Vanage (Side Rhythm) and Sunil Awachat (Flute). The show was hosted by Milind Kulkarni and coordinated by Vinayak Pashte.
