M|O|C cancer care celebrates the unwavering spirit of Cancer survivors with their patient initiative “Vijeta”

Pune: In an inspiring celebration of courage, resilience and hope, over 200 cancer survivors gathered at the forum ‘Vijeta – Strong Minds Against Cancer’, a special initiative by M|O|C Cancer Care & Research Centre that honoured individuals who remained determined and chose to live life uninterrupted, despite cancer.

The event- Vijeta, held in Pune, was a powerful reminder that it takes a strong mind to defeat cancer. From individuals who are cured of cancer completely, or continue to manage their condition like a chronic ailment while pursuing their life priorities, to those who are on active treatment and mentally prepared to defeat it come what may, each story reflected extraordinary strength in the face of adversity.

The evening was filled with heart-to-heart interactions and moments of celebration as survivors shared their journeys of perseverance, determination and hope. Their stories highlighted the emotional and physical challenges of facing or living with cancer while reinforcing the importance of familial and community support and a positive outlook to overcome it.

Renowned Marathi actress Shruti Marathe, who attended the event as Chief Guest, lauded the survivors for their indomitable spirit and encouraged them to continue inspiring others through their journeys. Ms Piyu Arole-Shirwadkar, a granddaughter of V. V. Shirwadkar, (famously known as Kusumagraj- Marathi poet, playwright, novelist and short story writer, who wrote of freedom, justice and emancipation of the deprived) anchored the program.

“Cancer is a chapter in a person’s life, not the entire story. Through Vijeta, we wanted to celebrate the incredible mental strength of those who continue to move forward fighting cancer with courage and optimism, proving that life can be meaningful, fulfilling and joyful even in the face of illness,” said Dr Mangesh Mekha, senior oncologist at M|O|C Cancer Care, Pune. We wish to make Vijeta a mammoth movement uniting all strong minds against cancer to promote mutual support in fight against cancer, said Dr Ravi Wategaonkar, senior oncologist at M|O|C Cancer Care, Pune.

Shruti Marathe, renowned Marathi actress and Chief Guest at the event said, “Meeting these incredible individuals has been deeply humbling. It reminds us that true strength lies not in the absence of challenges, but in the courage to face them every single day. The positivity, resilience and determination displayed by each survivor here today is truly inspiring. They are living proof that hope can shine even in the most difficult circumstances.”

M|O|C Cancer Care firmly believes that every cancer patient deserves the best-in-class treatment and care beyond all the logistical, financial and otherwise barriers and no one should be deprived of it. All our efforts at M|O|C concentrate on simplifying cancer journey for patients to achieve desired treatment outcomes and the best patient experience that aids those outcomes. Vijeta is one such initiative that is aligned with the core intent that promotes experience sharing and cross-learnings in the process of easing their journey, said Dr Tushar Patil, senior oncologist at M|O|C Cancer Care Pune.

The event also served as a platform for survivors and their families to connect with one another, fostering a sense of solidarity and shared experiences as well as understanding on how to strengthen the fight. For many attendees, it was a rare opportunity to meet others who had walked a similar path and to draw inspiration from their experiences.

As advances in cancer treatment continue to improve outcomes and quality of life, initiatives such as Vijeta are helping shift the conversation around cancer from one focused solely on disease to one that celebrates survivorship, resilience and the human spirit.
