Surgeons delve on the art and science of medicine to sharpen surgical skills
Pune (Voice News Service): In an effort to sharpen surgical skills of young Gynaecologists, Pune Obstetric and Gynecological Society (POGS) organised it’s annual conference ‘ Shalya Kaushalya’at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan on 10th and 11th December.It was attended by more than 350 delegates
Lt.Gen.Dr.Madhuri Kanitkar,Vice Chancellor MUHS and well-known surgeon Dr.Shailesh Puntambekar were the guests of honour .
Dr.Parag Biniwale President POGS , Dr.Milind Dugad Vice President , Dr.Ashish Kale Secretary ,Dr.Chaitanya Ganpule,Treasurer, Dr.Manjiri Valsangkar Clinical Secretary POGS , and Dr.Pankaj Sarode Convenor were present on the occasion . The theme of the event was conceptualised by Dr.Milind Dugad.
During the two day conference doctors delved on the art of science with focussed academic content through scientific programs , orations , keynotes, presentations and panel discussions with an aim to sharpen surgical skills .
Dr. Shailesh Puntambekar said that transfer of skills is a key, any procedure that we do should be able to be replicated. Pune has produced some of the best surgeons. But everything that we do has to be published in literature . To rise to a particularly level in a surgery , skills and techniques are important , but to help pass on the knowledge, documenting and getting it published in international journals and getting it endorsed by somebody you don’t know you is equally important.
On the second day Conference Oration was given by Dr Shailesh Puntambekar on “Relearning the pelvic anatomy” laparoscopically. Past presidents oration was given by Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar
Dr.Madhuri Kanitkar VC MUHS in a video message said that it’s always the science of medicine practised through art of the healing and we have to delve on it. We need to use both effectively. While we give care from our heart, reaching out to people, communication and documentation is also important . She also advocated more integrated approach and finding evidence based solutions using ancient systems of medicine and prove it with scientific basis . The world will listen to us when we do it with the rules that they have set, she added .
In his welcome address Dr.Parag Biniwale, President POGS expressed his happiness as Dr. Nozer Sheriar delivered the first POGS AV Umranikar oration , .The conference concentrated on mainstream Ob- Gyn topics and was a good learning experience .
The monthly newsletter ‘Speculum’ was also released on the occasion, the topics for this issue being HIV and Pelvic infections . The highlight of the conference was The “Pune Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (PJOG) ” initiative which was launched with own editorial committee. The first issue will be released in March 2023.
Dr. Milind Dugad introduced Dr.Shailesh Puntambekar ,while Dr.Uma Wankhede introduced Lt General Dr.Madhuri Kanitkar as the Guest of Honour for the conference.POGS Secretary Dr.Ashish Kale proposed the vote the thanks .
