Ruby Hall Clinic launches pioneering Robotic Joint Replacement and Stitchless Spine Surgery

Pune (P&V news Service): With an estimate of over 1.5 million joint replacement surgeries being needed annually, India, the projected osteoarthritis capital of the world will need to pool in all resources to ensure citizens remain healthy and mobile. In such a scenario, Pune’s Ruby Hall Clinic added another feather to its cap with the launch of a specialised Robotic Joint Replacement and Stitchless Spine Surgery Department. With this, the hospital also announced that in a unique collaboration with Sai Shree Hospital, internationally acclaimed orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Neeraj Adkar will be available for treatment and consultation at Ruby Hall Clinic six days a week.

The launch of this technologically advanced unit revealed the use of the highly specialised Cuvis Joint Robotic System for joint replacement procedures herein. As India’s first such specialised robotic system, it utilises surgical cutting edge robotic technology to support surgeons. Cuvis is the only fully automatic and advanced robotic joint replacement system installed at Ruby Hall Clinic to transform the lives of patients dealing and struggling with joint pain.

This revolutionary new technology enables surgeons to perform complex joint replacement surgeries with precision, by overcoming the challenges they face during traditional open surgeries. By means of 3D CT visualisations of the bone, this system aids with a range of tasks, such as preparing the bone, introducing the implant, balancing the implant and even checking for the right fit. Moreover, precise cutting ensures predictable and consistent results. In fact, what makes this system stand out is its unique BMM (Bone Motion Monitor) function which can detect even the slightest intraoperative movement of a patient, thereby resulting in unparalleled safety. As with all robotic surgeries, other benefits include minimal blood loss, reduced post operative pain and a quicker recovery.

Dr. Manisha Karmarkar, COO, Ruby Hall Clinic added, “Ever since the inception of our robotic surgery unit in 2017, we have slowly but steadily been transforming the way complex surgeries are performed, perceived and experienced. With head-to-toe-specialisations, our patients have benefitted from hundreds of procedures in just a short span of time. Now, with the addition of the specialised Robotic Joint Replacement and Sports Injury Programme, we are certain that there will be a paradigm shift in joint care surgeries. We look forward to Dr. Adkar’s expertise in this one-of-a-kind tie-up with Sai Shree Hospital and are confident that this will accelerate our programme and benefit those in need.”

With over two decades of experience, Dr. Neeraj Adkar is widely recognised in the medical fraternity as a leader in the fields of joint replacement and sports injury surgery. He has over five thousand joint replacement surgeries to his credit and has received much recognition for his training in all the facets of Arthroscopy and Arthroplasty. Dr. Adkar has already performed a number of knee replacement surgeries with CUVIS Joint.

To add to this, he has performed India’s first uncemented bilateral total knee replacement and Maharashtra’s first Condranet Graft Net technique for ACL among other feats. Over the tenure of his career, the highly proficient Dr. Adkar has practised at renowned medical institutes in the country and is also the Managing Director and Chief Surgeon at Sai Shree Orthopaedic Super Speciality and Joint Replacement Centre in Pune. Now, as Ruby Hall Clinic’s new Director, Department of Orthopaedics and Chief Robotic Joint Replacement Surgeon and Sports Injury Specialist, Dr. Adkar will also be present at the hospital from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Monday to Saturday.

“Joint replacement surgery using robotics sounds like a futuristic goal, but that future is now.  As surgeons, we know we can rely on the machine’s precise movements to assist us with procedures that demand great accuracy. Every single day, we see more patients understand the potential benefits of choosing the robotic option over the traditional procedure and I’m confident that this association with Ruby Hall Clinic will only accelerate such changes,” said Dr. Neeraj Adkar. In the short time since this association commenced, he has already successfully performed a robotic joint replacement surgery at Ruby Hall Clinic.

Mr. Bomi Bhote, CEO, Ruby Hall Clinic concluded, “Every day, patients walk through our doors seeking a life that is pain-free and that allows them the mobility to live life to the fullest. It is for them that we keep pushing the boundaries of patient care and strive to give those suffering from joint ailments the hope of a brighter tomorrow. We are second to none when it comes to infrastructure and are grateful to Dr. Adkar for sharing our vision and partnering with us — his support and expertise will indeed help us transform joint care as we know it!”

To mark the opening of the Robotic Joint Replacement and Stitchless Spine Surgery Department, a free robotic joint replacement and spine surgery check up camp will take place at Ruby Hall Clinic in association with Sai Shree Hospital under the guidance of Dr. Neeraj Adkar.
