P. Singh Baghel

Pune: Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, Minister of State for Law and Justice, Govt. of India on Thursday (15 September 2022) praised the efforts by MIT World Peace University, MIT School of Government (MIT-SOG) to organise the 12th edition of Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (BCS) – Indian Student Parliament). “Contemporary politics is undergoing transformation and students should aspire for quality education. Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad is playing an important role in creating the future leadership,” Baghel said while presiding over the function as its Chief Guest. He also expressed his wish to restart conducting student elections in universities and also requested MIT WPU to give a thought on this.

The three-day event of BCS was inaugurated in the august presence of UNESCO Chair Holder Revered Prof Dr Vishwanath D Karad, Founder and Chief Patron, MAEER’s MIT, Pune & President, MIT World Peace University; Rahul V. Karad, Executive President, MAEER, MIT World Peace University & Chief Initiator, MIT-SOG; Dr Kailasavadivoo Sivan, Former Chairperson, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO); Padma Bhushan Dr Anil Prakash Joshi, Environmentalist, Founder, Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organisation (HESCO); Anant Singhania, CEO, J.K. Group of Industries and President, IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Smt Kaushiki Chakraborty, Noted Classical Vocalist; Prof Sharadchandra Darade-Patil, Dean, MIT along with Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel.

Baghel also said, “Ramrajya is the best example of good governance. Universities like MIT WPU will help make India the Vishwaguru.”

Dr Sivan said, “Space technology is not about rockets, but about bringing transformation in rural population and society of India. Space technology is now helping us predict extreme natural events like cyclone, etc which has resulted in avoiding casualties and increasing yields of farmers and fishermen.”

Smt Kaushiki said, “My understanding of life happened through music. Holistic development of society is also important. Like our own culture, tradition, ethos, we have to make music a part of everyone’s everyday life.”

Singhania said, “Students and youth of our country should focus on priorities, create new ways and find solutions to problems. We are going to witness a tectonic growth in next few decades. I see a ‘Bharat’ which is not only Atmanirbhar but the world too will be dependent on us.”

Dr Joshi said, “Just like Delhi is political capital and Mumbai is financial capital, Himalaya is the ecological capital of India. Earlier we had economic insecurity but now we are facing ecological insecurity. We are now creating awareness on ecologically sensitive issues by arranging a cycle rally from Mumbai to Uttarakhand.”

Prof Dr Vishwanath Karad said, “Understanding mechanism of life is very important for us. Students should also experience ‘Swa-ttva’, ‘Swa-Dharma’ and ‘Swa-bhimaan’. Modern science has made efforts to understand the physical body but we have not been able to study human mind and soul. Students should read about Saint Dnyaneshwar and Saint Tukaram and understand the rich spiritual heritage of this country.”

Rahul V Karad welcomed all guests. He said, “Politics helps us in decision making. While the parliament library is well equipped and maintained in the capital city of our country, we need to create such knowledge centres and institutions at state (Vidhansabha), cities (municipal corporations) and villages (Zilla Parishads). Students should strive for ‘active citizenship’ and competent and educated people should get involved in politics. BCS will create awareness in all such aspects. All political parties should also come together and create a simple code of conduct for political aspirants.”

Nandita Jamwal from Jammu & Kashmir and Dheerendra Singh from Punjab, both student leaders from MIT-SOG also shared their thoughts on politics and governance. Vice Chancellor Dr R. M. Chitnis welcomed the participants and dignitaries. Prof Dr. Gautam Bapat compered the function and Dr K Girisan gave the vote of thanks.

Contemporary politics undergoing transformation: Prof. S. P.
