Vikram Kumar said that this is a very sensitive issue. Drugs, use of alcohol and cigarettes amongst youngsters is growing rapidly. The habits and addiction is not only restricted to youth of legal age but also amongst those who are underage. There is a need to find out the reason why youth are getting attracted to such habits and addiction.

Smt. Mukta Puntambekar, Director Muktangan Rehabilitation Centre, said that this is an important subject. Relating this survey to what is observed amongst the people coming for de-addiction at Muktangan, she said that the average age group of people with addiction is getting younger. A lot of youngsters today think that they can get rid of stress, depression and enjoy. By the time they realize that these are misconceptions, they already become addicted. The other addiction in today’s times which should be talked about is behavioral addictions which includes internet, internet pornography, gaming, online habits etc . These topics should be included in the next survey. The next step should be an action plan which should be creating awareness about the ill effects of these addictions .

In his welcome address Shri. Ashok Vaze – Chairman, College Development Committee at S. P. College, expressed it is worrisome to hear and read media reports about drugs and substance abuse amongst the youth. The awareness should start from school days itself.

Shri. Pranav Pawar, founder PR and Solutions, this is an issue amongst youth irrespective of their socio-economic background. Therefore a survey was necessary and best way was to engage youth of the same age group.

Presenting the survey Prof. Dr. Pradnya Kulkarni , faculty at psychology department, who analysed the data informed that the rapid increase in habits and addiction amongst youth is reflected in the survey as well as a lot of media reports that we read regularly.
