Pune (Voice news service):-<\/strong> The 4th edition of Pune\u2019s World Book Day<\/em>\u00a0goes beyond reading and writing\u2014bringing alive the theme\u00a0\u201cLiterature in Action.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Curated by\u00a0Paalvia Foundation<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Nukkad Cafe<\/strong>, in association with\u00a0Villoo Poonawalla Foundation<\/strong>, the festival transforms literature into lived experiences, showcasing how words can inspire change, build communities, and create meaningful impact.<\/p>\n

Unlike conventional literary events, this year\u2019s edition curates experiences across\u00a0diverse social spaces\u00a0from 19th -26th\u00a0 April 2026 which includes\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Akshar Paaul \u2013 Smiling Library Initiative,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Balgram SOS Children\u2019s Villages,\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Purnkuti<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0Mahatma Phule Mandai.<\/strong>\u00a0From orphanages and community libraries for underprivileged children to after-school centres for children of sex workers, the festival brings literature into real-life contexts where it can truly engage, connect, and make a difference.<\/p>\n

The intention is to let literature, in every form, inspire children, especially from marginalised communities, create opportunities for individuals with disabilities, add value to social spaces and engage and move people at large.<\/p>\n

Social Spaces as Literary Venues<\/h2>\n

Pune\u2019s World Book Day 2026 stands out for its strong emphasis on\u00a0inclusion and community engagement<\/strong>. By collaborating with diverse communities, the festival makes literature more accessible, participatory, and meaningful.<\/p>\n

Key venues include:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Akshar Paaul \u2013 Smiling Library Initiative:\u00a0<\/strong>Serving children of construction workers and underserved communities, the initiative runs 16 libraries reaching over 1,000 children\u2014nurturing reading, creativity, and confidence. Experiences will be hosted at their Hadapsar and Warje centres.<\/p>\n

Balgram SOS Children\u2019s Villages:\u00a0<\/strong>Supporting children without parental care for over four decades, Balgram focuses on holistic development. With 5 Children\u2019s Villages and 27 Balsadan & hostels, it reaches over 1,000 children annually. Experiences will be held at their Yerwada centre.<\/p>\n

Purnkuti<\/strong>: Working with women, children, transgender individuals, and marginalized communities, Purnkuti supports over 200 children through education and 4,000+ women through livelihood programs. Experiences will take place at their Raviwar Peth centre.<\/p>\n

Mahatma Phule Mandai:\u00a0<\/strong>Established in 1886, this iconic market has been at the heart of Pune\u2019s daily life for nearly 140 years\u2014serving as a living canvas of stories, people, and culture.<\/p>\n
