Pune: Various social, educational and cultural organisations in Pune have come together to form a peace initiative titled \u201cFriends of Manipur Committee\u201d with the aim of promoting peace and harmony in the violence-affected state of Manipur.
\nThe committee has been established in response to the continuing unrest in Manipur over the past three years. The members said the initiative will focus on creating awareness, building solidarity and supporting efforts for peace in the region.
\nSpeaking at a press conference, Manipur social activist Santosh Kumar Singh and Advocate Chandrakant Ghanekar informed that the committee will operate from Prabhat Road in Pune and will coordinate activities through various social organisations.
\nSeveral prominent members of civil society were present at the event, including Ismail Sheikh from the National Integration Committee, Dilip Singh Vishwakarma of the Aware Punekar Manch, Dr. Prasad Phatak, Rajesh Sharma, and Advocate Anant Darwatkar.
\nThe committee has also appointed senior personalities as guides, including former police officer Suresh Khopde, Sanjay Nahar, founder of Sarhad Sanstha, and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Y. C. Pawar.
\nMembers of the newly formed committee expressed hope that collective efforts from citizens and organisations across the country will contribute towards restoring peace and stability in Manipur.
