{"id":14352,"date":"2024-02-18T23:51:40","date_gmt":"2024-02-18T18:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesofpowerandvoice.com\/?p=14352"},"modified":"2024-02-18T23:51:41","modified_gmt":"2024-02-18T18:21:41","slug":"maha-open-challenger-truly-a-top-100-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesofpowerandvoice.com\/?p=14352","title":{"rendered":"Maha Open Challenger, truly a Top 100 tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Pune (Voice News Service):-<\/strong> The ATP Challenger that started in Pune in 2014 can be termed a Challenger that has thrown up top 100 players not only from India but even the world. the tournament\u00a0which started as the KPIT -MSLTA ATP Challenger was conducted for six years in a row before a three year break during Covid. the tournament resumed back in 2023 as the MahaOpen Challenger has been conducted by the Maharashtra State\u00a0 Lawn tennis Association\u00a0<br>The tournament\u00a0director of the\u00a0event since inception Sunder Iyer, Hon Secretary of MSLTA and Mr.Prashant Sutar, Chairman of MSLTA said the tournament can be termed as a top 100 Challenger over the years. the tournament\u00a0 which was won by Yuki Bhambri twice ( Yuki still remains the only player to have won the singles event twice)\u00a0 \u00a0and Prajnesh Gunneswaran reaching the finals twice\u00a0 and Ramkumar Ramanathan who reached the finals once\u00a0 had helped the players to propel into the top 100 -120 stage in singles and play at all the major events in the subsequent year following the event .\u00a0<br>Apart from giving valuable ATP points to\u00a0 Indian players over the years , the tournament also helped its past\u00a0 winners Y\u016bichi Sugita (Japan),\u00a0<strong>Sadio Doumbia\u00a0 (France)\u00a0 \u00a0,\u00a0Elias Ymer (Sweden\u00a0),\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0James Duckworth\u00a0 and Max Purcell (Australia)\u00a0 to enter the top 100 in the world rankings in the singles event .<br>The doubles event of the tournament\u00a0 has been won by the Indian pairs\u00a0 five out of seven times, the win for the Indian pair of\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Anirudh Chandrasekar\u00a0 and Vijay Sundar Prashanth\u00a0 in 2023 ensured the team which was given a\u00a0\u00a0wildcard\u00a0became a top 100 pair in the last year\u00a0 since they won the event . Apart from the duo Indian players\u00a0\u00a0Saketh Myneni,\u00a0 Sanam Singh,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Divij Sharan\u00a0 ,Purav Raja\u00a0 ,\u00a0Ramkumar Ramanathan, Arjun Kadhe\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0who won the titles or reached the finals of the event have all boosted their\u00a0rankings and made the Top 100 stage ,\u00a0 Iyer added\u00a0<br>\u00a0The tournament this year with Sumit Nagal as the top seed\u00a0 and the Top Indian Players making\u00a0it to the Main Draw or qualifyings\u00a0through wild cards\u00a0 is truly the Indian Challenger\u00a0 and will help to propel another top 100 player
